Sweet Orange essential oil is the most important of the citrus oils commercially and is produced in very large quantities. The essential oil is obtained from is known botanically as Citrus sinensis.

Surprisingly, the precise origin of Citrus sinensis has never been established, but many botanists believe it originated somewhere between South-western China and the Himalayas. Sweet orange does not occur as a wild plant anywhere in the world, and is thought to be a natural hybrid of the pumelo and mandarin.

Sweet orange essential oil is known to most as simply “orange essential oil.” However, the name “sweet orange” helps distinguish it from other varieties of orange essential oils, such as bitter orange. Sweet orange essential oil has a very high limonene content, which makes for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Sweet orange essential oil boasts a range of health benefits.
